I have nearly forty years experience in Education including many years experience in strategic management as well as staff development. Since 2002 I have worked as a consultant with over fifty colleges.

I have held the following management positions in further education:

  • Vice Principal: Curriculum and Quality
  • Assistant Principal: Curriculum
  • Director of Learning Development
  • Staff Development Officer
  • Head of Teacher Education
  • Curriculum manager: Psychology and Education
I began my career as an English teacher in secondary schools working particularly with students who did not find school easy. I moved into teaching in FE when my children were small. After gaining an Open University degree I taught Psychology and Educational Studies on both academic and vocational programmes including teacher training and management courses. I was an external oral examiner in the early days of A level Psychology. I have also worked with students, including adults, with a history of failure in education as well as working with students with learning difficulties.

I have taught all age groups from pre-school to post retirement courses and I have taught in the traditional classroom as well as in communities and open workshop environments.

As a consultant I work with colleges at different levels. I work with teachers to help them enhance the learning of their students through exploring different methods of teaching as well as looking at how they can help their students improve their learning strategies. I work with curriculum team leaders, departmental heads and cross-college managers to help them develop strategies to improve the effectiveness of their teams and I work with senior management to develop leadership skills and strategic management of the college as a whole.

I have developed a number of models and development tools which I use to help people reflect on their own learning and identify strategies to improve their own performance as well as that of their teams and the whole organisation.

As well as contracting work directly I am also a registered consultant with the following organisations:

  • The Association of Colleges
  • LSDA as a Support for Success consultant
  • CFBT as a Skills for Life Facilitator
  • The DFES through The Standards Unit
  • Tribal / Network Training
I am a member of The Society of Education Consultants and a Fellow of the RSA. If you would like to know more about how I work please click 'How I work' on the menu bar on the left. If you want to contact me please phone me on mobile 07973 803266 or send me an email
