This programme is delivered in three modules.
Module A. Understanding what inspectors are looking for and understanding the grading system.
Module B. Giving Effective Feedback.
Module C. Shadowing staff as they observe and give feedback in real situations

Module C, as well as being a key component of the training can also be used to validate the college’s internal classroom observation process.

The modules can be delivered as separate or as one module in a three or two module programme.

Module A looks particularly at what makes a good-to-outstanding session, as opposed to a satisfactory one as well as looking at why a session might be less than satisfactory. A video gives participants practice in grading. The session facilitates consistency in grading across the college and is appropriate for all teachers, those who will be observed as well as those who observe. It alerts all staff to the criteria that are used when grading. The session is ideally three hours in length.

Module B gives staff practice in giving constructive feedback including giving the grade. At the end of the session staff should be confident in giving effective feedback to staff, be clear about their justification for the grades they give, be able to give honest feedback in a constructive manner and be able to support the teacher in identifying any appropriate action to improve their practice. The session is ideally three hours in length.

Module C involves shadowing staff while they observe and give feedback in a real context. Staff who have participated in module C have found it a very effective process - it enables them to receive feedback on how well they are putting into practice skills developed in Modules A and B. The module allocates approximately ninety minutes per shadow – this means a one day session can accommodate four staff being shadowed once each. Module C is also an effective way of moderating the college's internal classroom observation process.
